Weyerhaeuser Forest Nursery Specialist in Aurora, Oregon

Weyerhaeuser’s Western Timberlands has an opening for a Forest Nursery Specialist (Bareroot) within our Western Regeneration business. In this role, you would be a key member of our Aurora Nursery team that is responsible for growing over 20 million seedlings annually, mainly for Weyerhaeuser's reforestation efforts. We are looking for a solid team player with a passion for growing, ingenuity around equipment and process improvements, and a dedication to crop care.

Key Functions

As a Forest Nursery Specialist (Bareroot), you will play a key role in sowing/transplant season, growing season, and lift/pack season. Other responsibilities include:

  • Demonstrate total commitment to working safely and following all safety rules and regulations by role modeling safety policies and safe work practices
  • Be both an active participant and process leader by providing guidance to crews in the areas of soil cultivation, fumigation, irrigation, fertilization, frost protection, lifting, and/or equipment maintenance
  • Follow and document reliable processes for safety, quality, production, and costs.
  • Ensure compliance with safety and environmental rules and regulations
  • Understand seed and seedling quality specifications and leverage key points for seedling yield, cost, and performance.
  • Effectively prioritize, plan, implement, and manage activities to meet targets and deadlines
  • Balance labor resources to ensure continuous improvement in safety, quality, production, and costs.
  • Perform "crop walks" to observe crop health and yield, as well as provide ongoing grower support
  • Communicate with team members and leadership to ensure consistent exchange of information relative to position
  • Assist with overseeing the maintenance of equipment and recognize innovative opportunities (e.g., precision farming and automation)
  • Flow to work as needed to other projects within Western Regeneration

  • Bachelors degree (or higher) in Forestry, Agronomy, Horticulture, Agriculture or related field with at least 1 year of nursery growing/production experience ORHigh School Diploma/GED with at least 4 years of nursery growing/production experience

  • Proficient computer skills to include Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Flexible availability regarding work hours during seasonal production activities (may include nights, weekends, and overtime)
  • Able to fulfill essential job functions, which include working both indoors and outdoors, with exposure to a variety of weather conditions and uneven working surfaces
  • Must possess valid driver's license
  • Successful completion of pre-employment screening and background check
  • Reside within approximately 30 minutes of the facility due to business needs (relocation assistance available)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of pesticide use and application for seedling growing and protection, and ability to obtain Private Applicator License
  • Familiar with the operation and maintenance of tractors and any other nursery equipment
  • Able to communicate in Spanish
  • Forklift/tractor driver certification, and ability to obtain it within a period no longer than 6 months

What We Offer

Compensation: This role is eligible for our annual merit-increase program, and we are targeting a salary range of $61,350 - $91,957based on your level of skills, qualifications and experience. You will also be eligible for our Annual Incentive Program, which offers a cash bonus targeting 5% of base pay. Potential plan funding may range from zero to two times that target.

Retirement: Employees are able to enroll in our company’s 401k plan, which includes a paid company match in addition to our annual contribution equal to 5% of your base salary.

Paid Time Off or Vacation: We provide eligible employees who are scheduled to work 25 hours or more per week with 3-weeks of paid vacation to use during your first year of employment. In addition, after being employed for six months, eligible employees begin to accrue vacation for future use. We also recognize eleven paid holidays per year, providing a total of 88 holiday hours
